governing [ai] physics

Open to everyone.Independently governed.

AIPhysics.org is an open benchmark for AI methods in engineering simulation. NAFEMS leads its governance. Rescale runs the platform as founding technical partner. Anyone can take part, on the same terms.

What AIPhysics.org is

AI methods for engineering simulation are improving fast, but there's no trusted, shared way to compare them on the problems engineers actually solve. General machine-learning leaderboards don't answer the questions simulation teams ask. Does the model hold up across real physics? Does it get the engineering quantities right? How does it do against trusted reference data?

AIPhysics.org gives the community a common yardstick.

  • Public training dataFor real engineering problems, from stressed plates to full-vehicle aerodynamics and crash.
  • Blind evaluationOn held-out test cases that are never released.
  • Published results and methodsSo anyone can see how every number was produced.

Who does what

[ai] physics

Co-founder

NAFEMS

Leads governance and methodology

NAFEMS has overall responsibility for the governance of AIPhysics.org. A NAFEMS-led committee of technical experts oversees:

  • Which benchmarks are included, changed or retired
  • The benchmark methodology and evaluation criteria
  • The principles governing the publication of results
  • Who can take part, and on what terms
  • The overall direction of the initiative

Co-founder

Rescale

Leads platform and technology

As founding technical partner, Rescale builds and runs the platform within the agreed governance framework:

  • The website, submission system and evaluation pipeline
  • The secure infrastructure that keeps test data private
  • Compute for every evaluation
  • Onboarding and technical support for participants, and compute credits for selected contributors

How we keep it fair

  • Same rules for everyone

Every model goes through the same submission process and is scored by the same pipeline under the same published method. That includes Rescale's own reference runs.

  • Results are transparent

Published results identify the submitting organization and explain how the results were obtained, in accordance with the initiative's publication policy.

  • Test data is never released

Held-out cases and their reference results stay private, so no one can tune a model to the test.

  • Methods are public

The scoring method for every benchmark is documented on the site. Changes are recorded in the decision log.

  • Sources are credited

Every dataset names its origin and links to the original release.

Open to everyone

AIPhysics.org welcomes anyone working on AI for engineering simulation: model developers, software vendors (including Rescale's competitors), academic and research groups, national laboratories, engineering teams in industry, and standards bodies.

Submit a model

Train on the public data with any tools you like, then submit for blind evaluation. Your code and weights can stay private.

Contribute a benchmark

Bring simulation data for a new problem. We'll work with you to build the public training set and the private test set.

Help shape the methods

Working groups on metrics and evaluation are forming for each field. Register your interest.

Become a partner

Technology providers and other organisations can join the initiative on transparent, non-discriminatory terms set by the steering committee.

Founding partners

NAFEMS

Co-founder

Leads governance and methodology

NAFEMS is the non-profit International Association for the Engineering Modelling, Analysis & Simulation Community, guided by its global membership. With a rich heritage in benchmarking, verification and validation, it promotes best practice and confidence in engineering simulation.

Rescale

Co-founder

Leads platform and technology

Rescale is the digital engineering platform that delivers agentic engineering and AI physics for advanced industries. Building on more than a decade of experience in the field, it helps teams put AI methods to work on real design problems.

AIPhysics.org Steering Committee. Led by NAFEMS. Its composition, responsibilities and arrangements for participation will be established through the governance process.

Why this partnership

For the engineering community: open datasets and side-by-side comparisons of emerging AI architectures on real physics problems, helping engineers understand their capabilities, limitations and suitability for different applications.

For NAFEMS: An opportunity to help establish credible, independent and community-led approaches to assessing AI methods in engineering simulation, drawing on NAFEMS's experience in verification, validation and good practice.

For Rescale: faster adoption of AI physics methods, and closer work with model developers and engineering practitioners.
